Third time's a charm?

Lauren, you naughty, naughty thing. You get people all excited, you talk a lot of shit, and then nothing ever happens...

So imagine my awesome surprise when a friend tells me about NaNoWriMo. Sign up to the challenge and you commit yourself to 50,000 words in 30 days. I was like, I'm SO there. And so I am. One day in, and I've done just over 1,000 words. I need to do around 2,000 each day to keep up, so tonight will be dedicated. This is it, I can feel it. I've always worked best to deadlines, and that magic round tuit still hasn't appeared, so here we go.

I've even had a flash of inspiration to force the 50k to come... Thanks in large part to Mr David Nicholls, my new inspiration (I still love you, Hornby, don't worry). This inspiration will still let me get out the whole Garden State-meets-High Fidelity that I was pumping for earlier, but just gives it a little structure. I've copied the vague synopsis below; let me know what you think.

In the meantime... World, look out. McMenemy's actually going to write this damn thing if it kills her!

Synopsis: So this is what it's come to...

Alice lives in a world of dinner parties and Tiffany jewellery and fixer-uppers and toddlers and really all she wants to do is go down to Brixton Academy and get off with the drummer from a burgeoning post-post-punk/nu-rave outfit who are *this* close to being signed, honest. How and when exactly did her friends become grown-ups? And why wasn't she informed? All Alice wants to do is immerse herself in music and film and books; this is what she does, she's a pop culture junkie. She doesn't want to grow up. She'll be the crazy old cat lady of North London, but at least she'll have a great record collection and own every film ever made starring Corey Feldman.

But what led her to this point? What life moments and big decisions and albums and films have made Alice, Alice? And what will she do when that soundtrack leads her to her very own fork-in-the-road, the plot point, the killer middle section, that will ask her to join or forever hold her peace?
